I was looking through my saved links for something that could recommend a good read and there you were. I was scrolling down through the posts I hadn't read when I spotted this one, and being a longtime friend of Alice myself, I was curious to see what you thought of the movie. There were many aspects of the plot, characters, etc. that I liked but I just could not get past the bad marriage of "real" things on CGI backgrounds. I could have happily lived with completely one or completely the other, but I think the beauty of the real faces and things diminishes the illusion of CGI all the more. Blech. However, I do still love Alice, and also came right home to pull out my Annotated...

Thanks for your post.

I loved your article on Alice. I grow up watching the Disney version of Alice in Wonderland, but didn't read the book until my sophomore year in college. It is a very quotable book, and I grew up with my dad reading "Jabberwocky". I eagerly awaiting the 2010 film version. My husband took me to see it last week. I enjoyed all the references to the book/poem, but I thought some of the actors were held back and had more in them. Still, loved the movie and love Alice.

Hello, Bronwyn! I loved your thoughts on Alice, particularly with regards to our 'muchness'! :)

And I have to tell you, I found out about Bright Star through your mother's blog and I was actually already planning on watching it *tonight*! ;) Yes, I think you could definitely say that we have similar tastes on things...

Hi Lanier, my name is Bronwyn and I'm Jodi's daughter/partner in crafty crime back at Curious Acorn. I wanted to write because I think it's funny how you and my family love the same books. My sister and I ADORED the Alice books (I still have to read Through the Looking Glass though haha) and we've seen a few different adaptions of the book. I went to see Burton's Alice with mixed feelings. After hearing about how dumb it was by some people my enthusiasm was a bit dampened but I went, I saw, and I loved it! I have to agree with you that Johnny's performance was completely captivating. In my opinion he was exactly what Tim needed for the Mad Hatter to come to life. I loved Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, she definitely had the right amount of both humor and intimidation. As for Alice, she grew on me as the story progressed although sometimes I thought she could've shown a bit more emotion at times. Anne Hathaway was stunning as the White Queen. I laughed at her whimsical humor and I think she played the part very well. All in all the movie was well done and I will definitely see it again once it comes out.

One thing my mom and I really loved was the "six impossible things before breakfast" part. As Christains, we love and serve a God for Whom NOTHING is impossible, which makes following Him an exciting adventure. In Him, we indeed find our "muchness". :-)

~Bronwyn

P.S. A different movie but well worth watching is Bright Star. I love it 'cause Fanny Brawne looks like my older sister and my dad has always called me "toots", which was Fanny's little sister's nick name.
