I'm thrilled to see this site alive again! That is such a cute story, Lanier, and you always put things so well! It made me smile because I had my first real snow experience this winter. Here is Oregon, the west side of the Cascades gets very little snow. The once a year or so it does snow, all Portland shuts down and we have a holiday. Well, this time the snow came unexpectedly in the middle of a working day. As everyone left work and got on the freeway and the snow began coming down heavy, I found myself in a massive traffic jam in my family's big van which is absolutely not made for driving in the snow! It was my first experience by myself in the snow and I spent an hour in traffic, then two hours by the side of the road waiting for my dad to get there and help put chains on! Now, as I am shopping for my own car, a Subaru is looking really good! I'm just glad I wasn't having to miss a party :( I can imagine how disapointing that was and I love how you all made the best of things and had a great time anyway!

What a lovely story. I adore your blog! You are a marvelous writer, and I get so excited when I see that there is a new post that I nearly squeal with delight (sometimes I actually do). There are strings of your words that make me pause and heave a breath, closing my eyes just to feel the "shimmer" of it. It is so inspiring, and so uplifting.

Dear Lanier,

I was reading your entry, enjoying it as usual when I happened to mouse over the "creative joy" link and saw that it pointed to my blog. Oh, my goodness, I was surprised. How kind of you - thank you very much. We yankees are in the mid-Atlantic region of the country, and while we do typically see reasonable amounts of winter snowfall, this year was record-breaking, with over a month to go until spring.

I hope your farm animals fared well. I was quite worried about my hens, but after we waded through thigh-high snow to feed them, Pa Ingalls kindly shoveled a path for me to their coop :)

Beautifully written . . .
Your comments about the snow make me laugh. As a relatively new Midwesterner I've grown almost comfortable with fishtailing and sliding down hills in a car--as long as I'm still in control of the car. But there are days when no one goes out, when I'm thankful I can put on my snow boots and walk over to a friend's place rather than attempt driving.
