Lanier, once again you have written down the words my heart is feeling - lately I've been so aware of the presence of the Lord - His sweet whisper to 'come close and abide'. But, at the same time, everything and anything that can pull me in the opposite direction has come my way (I'm on to that scheme!).
Thank you for this encouragement and reminder to seek Him, face to face, and worship Him. I love you!

Dear Lanier,
I linked to this post on my blog. I have been wanting to write a comment to you since I started reading your blog (which wasn't too long ago). I "discovered" you through Coffee, Tea, Books, and Me- just before Christmas. And the first thing I read was the Christmas reprint from several years before. O- what a delight and joy to read.
It truly has been such a blessing to read the various entries and writings.
I have no words to share how much this post- Face Down- has "fed" me. It bring tears to my eyes and awe.
Thank you for writing,
Rebecca

I am finding myself in one of those seasons like your last November with my head down and the writing task too large, too intimidating, deadline looming. Such an encouragement today to bathe the project in prayer and worship. Thank you. J.J. S.D.G.

Oh, but you do write like Goudge! :)

Thought I'd tell you I used some of my Amazon credit to purchase Lark Rise to Candleford and Still Glides the Steam. Found two very good copies through one of their used book suppliers.

They look wonderful.

There are so many lovely and nourishing thoughts in this essay. I will ponder them, though I haven't wits or time just now to compose an in depth reply
[We are in the middle of shutting down our business and packing for a move across the country to KY where plan to retire.]
As I read your post I thought of Ben [Pilgrim's Inn] tearing the wallpaper and grunge away from the beautiful fresco in the little chapel--his cry of "For the glory of God!"
That same sense of dedicating our work to God's glory is found in Green Dolphin Street--that French phrase with which the Channel Islanders began every task.
I am re-reading the Pilgrim's Inn trilogy as I pack and sort [and fret a bit] in preparation for leaving a home of 12 years. The familiar words are soothing, as the cats read with me in the middle of the night.
Elizabeth Goudge's books always offer some thought or phrase which takes on new meaning depending on where we are in life. This time through I actually caught some chronological discrepencies which the author and editor missed!

I kept thinking of one thing while I was reading this excellent piece: the second part of 1 Chronicles 29:14: "For all things come from thee, and of thy own have we given thee."
