Pied Beauty

Glory be to God for dappled things—
        For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
            For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
    Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
        Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
            And áll trades, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spáre, strange;
        Whatever is fickle, frecklèd (who knows how?)
            With swíft, slów; sweet, sóur; adázzle, dím;
    He fathers-forth whose beauty is pást change:
                                                Práise hím.

    What a blessing to see you posting again, Lanier! I’m so relieved to know that your much lamented absence has a good reason behind it! I’ll look forward to your wonderful writing and photographs in the coming weeks and months.

    Perhaps you didn’t have comments on when I first read this post, so I never told you how it’s beautiful to me. I’m just going back to a few of my favorite photos of Puck and Pansy, and Juno, and…pooling up. What sweet little ones. Dappled joy.

    Matthew 19: 28: Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

    That “renewal of ALL things” I have found comforting in loss.
