I know precisely what she was talking about…

To My Dear and Loving Husband

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were lov’d by wife, then thee.
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye women, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole Mines of gold,
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that Rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee give recompense.
Thy love is such I can in no way repay;
The heavens reward thee manifold I pray.
Then while we live, in love lets so persevere,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

Anne Bradstreet (1612-72)

    What a beautiful poem, Lanier… yes, I know too, just what she was feeling.

    I have LOVED this painting for many years. THANK YOU for including it on your Valentine’s Day post!!!!

    Hope your chickens are all safe and that your seedlings begin sprouting for you! We’ve still got snow on the ground, in this, our snowiest Colorado winter in my memory. I’ve added some compost to my garden, but I can’t start the seedlings quite yet! 🙂
